About the US Coast Guard Auxiliary

The Auxiliary is the civilian, volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security. Every year Auxiliarists donate thousands of hours performing on-the-water search and rescue, safety, security, aids to navigation (ATON), and special events patrols. These patrols are conducted with member's own boats and Personal Water Crafts ('Jet Ski') that are certified as US Coast Guard Auxiliary facilities.

In addition to on-the-water operations the Auxiliary is heavily involved with educating the public through boating safety classes, free vessel safety checks, and free beach cleanup and safety days.

For more information on the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the impact it makes every day see the National Website for further information.

About Flotilla (13-13)

Flotilla 13-13 is comprised of 28 men and women aged 19 to 75 who are bound together by their spirit of volunteerism, love of our Country, and desire to help people. Flotilla 13-13's home is Coast Guard Station Jones Beach where we work closely with the regular Coast Guard.

In addition to public service Flotilla 13-13 continually engages is invaluable training to increase the skills or its members. Routine training includes Boat Crew & Coxswain, Communications, Emergency Response Drills, Advanced Navigation, and Instructor Training.

As much as training and volunteerism is a part of the Auxiliary and Flotilla 13-13, so is fellowship - one of the cornerstones of the Auxiliary itself. Throughout the year Flotilla 13-13 has numerous celebrations, including BBQs, raft-ups, pizza parties, restaurant gathering, and Change of Watch (COW) dinners where elected officers are sworn in and awards are given out.

If any of the above sounds good to you I encourage you to brose through the Flotilla website and other Auxiliary pages to get a feel for what we're all about. If you'd like to learn more and even join us, you're more than welcome to contact our membership officer Joe O'Leary (by clicking here) for more information. As we're a purely volunteer organization you're free to donate as much or as little time as you like. In any event, if you join the Auxiliary you'll be a part of a remarkable organization and understand what it means to be 'America's Volunteer Lifesavers'.
